The Østerdal bunad for women includes a bodice, skirt, shirt, apron, and purse, with variations between North and South Østerdal. The garments are based on historical styles from the 1700s and 1800s and can be customized with a range of fabrics and accessories. At Hulda Bunader, you’ll find material kits, exclusive high-quality fabrics, and all the accessories needed for the Østerdal bunad.
The Østerdal bunad for women is a traditional folk costume from the Østerdal region in Eastern Norway. It typically includes a bodice, skirt, linen shirt, apron, and a small purse (lomme) worn at the waist. There are two main regional styles: North Østerdal and South Østerdal. The most visible difference lies in the shirts. Traditionally, the South Østerdal bunad did not include a purse, and aprons were not commonly used before the 1960s.
Each garment reflects a different historical period. The bodice and purse are influenced by Rococo fashion from the late 1700s, while the skirt, apron, and shirt are based on clothing traditions from the mid-1800s.
All bunads are handmade in our workshop in Alvdal, Norway. We use only high-quality materials with no semi-finished or outsourced production.
Prices start at NOK 27,000 for a bunad with plain weave skirt, bird-patterned bodice, and factory-made shirt. Purse, apron, silver jewelry, and other accessories are sold separately. Additional costs may apply for larger sizes or alternative fabrics.
